AN ACT TO AMEND THE MENTAL HEALTH ACT, (Assented to , 1971) HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1. The Mental Health Act is hereby amended. 2.

Section is struck out and the following

section is substituted: 28.

(1) Where it appears to the Minister that a patient in a hospital has come or been brought into Alberta from another jurisdiction within 12 months prior to his admis sion to the hospital, the Minister or any person authorized by him may, by warrant in the prescribed form, authorize his transfer to a hospital in that jurisdiction.

(2) Where the Minister has reason to believe that a per son suffering from a mental disorder may come or be brought into Alberta, and that person is normally resident in Alberta, the Minister, or any person authorized by him, may issue a warrant in the prescribed form which is suf ficient authority to any person to convey the person named therein to a designated hospital and to the Superintendent thereof to admit and detain him therein for a period not exceeding 72 hours during which time he shall be admitted pursuant to the provisions of this Act or released. 3. This Act comes into force on the day upon which it is assented to. Explanatory Notes I. This Bill amends
