On the recommendation of the undersigned, the Lieutenant Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, orders that the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations, B.C. Reg. 26/58, is amended as set out in the attached Appendix.

Appendix

Schedule 1 to Division 23 of the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations, B.C. Reg. 26/58, is amended by striking out the following:

This sign confirms that motorcyclists are permitted in

high occupancy vehicle lanes.

Colour: Black on white reflectorized background.

Section 42.01 is amended

(

a) by adding the following definition:

“electric motor vehicle” means a motor vehicle that

(

a) has an electric propulsion engine and a battery storage system that can be charged from an external electric charging outlet, and

(

b) displays a permit, in a form issued by the minister responsible for the administration of the Transportation Act , on the vehicle’s rear bumper or rear window; , and

(

b) by repealing the definition of “freeway” .

Section 42.02 is amended

(

a) in subsections (1) and (2) by striking out “ on a highway other than a freeway ”,

(

b) in subsection (2) (

c) by striking out “ vehicle lane ” and substituting “ lane ”,

(

c) in subsection (3) (

a) by striking out “ on the laned roadway ” and substituting “ on the highway ”, and

(

d) in subsections (3) (

d) and (4) by striking out “ motor cycle, taxi or handy dart vehicle ” and substituting “ motorcycle, taxi, handy dart vehicle or an electric motor vehicle ”.

Section 42.03 is repealed.
