Short title Bill

An Act to amend the Family Law Act with respect to the rights of spouses in a matrimonial home Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows: 1.

Section of the Family Law Act is amended by adding the following definition: “spouse” means a spouse as defined in subsec- tion 1 (1), and in addition includes either of a man and woman who, on or after the day this definition is enacted, are not married to each other and have cohabited, (

a) continuously for a period of not less than three years, or (

b) in a relationship of some permanence, if they are the natural or adoptive parents of a child. (“conjoint”) 2. Clause 28 (2) (

a) of the Act is repealed and the following substituted: (

a) whether the spouses were married before or after March 1, 1986 if they are married to each other; and . . . . . 3. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent. 4. The

short title of this Act is the Family Law Amendment Act, 1997. Projet de loi Loi modifiant la

Loi sur le droit de la famille est modifié par adjonction de la défini- tion suivante : «conjoint» S’entend au sens du paragraphe 1 (1). Comprend également l’homme et la femme qui ne sont pas mariés ensemble et qui, le jour de l’adoption de cette définition ou par la suite, ont cohabité, selon le cas :

a) de façon continue depuis au moins trois ans;

b) dans une relation d’une certaine perma- nence, s’ils sont les parents naturels ou adoptifs d’un enfant. («spouse») 2. L’alinéa 28

(2) a) de la Loi est abrogé et remplacé par ce qui suit :

a) que les conjoints se soient mariés avant ou après le er mars s’ils sont mariés ensemble; . . . . . 3. La présente loi entre en vigueur le jour où elle reçoit la sanction royale. 4. Le

titre abrégé de la présente loi est Loi de modifiant la

Loi sur le droit de la famille. Entrée en vigueur
