EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Bill would amend the Income and Employment Support Act and

the Student Financial Assistance Act

to allow the Student Loan Corporation of Newfoundland

and Labrador to collect overpayments of income

and employment support.

Be it enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor and

House of Assembly in Legislative Session convened, as follows:

INCOME AND EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT ACT

1. The Income

and Employment Support Act is amended by adding immediately after subsection

7(3) the following:

(3.1) Notwithstanding subsection (2), the minister

may exchange information necessary to collect money owed to the Crown as a

result of an overpayment with the corporation established under

section 14.1 of

the Student Financial Assistance Act .

Section 14.5 of the Student Financial Assistance Act

is amended by adding immediately after paragraph (

k) the following:

(k.1) collect money owed to the Crown as a result of

overpayments of income support and employment support, as those terms are

defined in the Income and Employment

Support Act ;
