OIC Text: The Governor in Council, on the report and recommendation of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice dated April 4, 2024, and pursuant to Sections 3 and 4 of

Chapter 252 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Legal Aid Act, is pleased to: (

a) reappoint George Ash of Halifax Regional Municipality (Dartmouth) as a part-time director and Chair of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission for a term of three (3) years commencing May 11, 2024; (

b) reappoint Ronald Chisholm of Truro, Colchester County, as a part-time director of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission for a term of three (3) years commencing May 9, 2024; (

c) appoint Mark Ross Langley of Halifax Regional Municipality (Halifax) as a part-time director of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission for a term of three (3) years commencing June 22, 2024; (

d) determine that the remuneration of George Ash shall be at the rate of $300 for each day of meetings of the Commission or a committee of it during the period he serves as a part-time director and Chair, and be reimbursed for reasonable expenses incurred in fulfilling his duties as Chair provided that any such reimbursement does not exceed that normally payable to members of the civil service; and (

e) order that the Province shall defend, negotiate, or settle claims or charges made against George Ash, Ronald Chisholm, and Mark Ross Langley, and indemnify them from personal liability provided that the Province is satisfied that the claim arises out of their activities in relation to their appointment and is not based on fraud or criminal activity and where the Province so defends, the Province will be in control of the case.
