OIC Text: The Governor in Council on the report and recommendation of the Acting President of the Executive Council dated March 7, 2002, and pursuant to Sections 2A, 4, 4B and 4C of
Chapter 376 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, as amended, the Public Service Act, and all other authority in her vested, is pleased, effective March 8, 2002, to: (
a) revoke Order in Council 1999-413 dated August 19, 1999, which Order assigned responsibility for the Technology and Science Secretariat to the Honourable Jane S. Purves; (
b) direct that all affairs and matters which have heretofore been assigned by or under any Act of the Legislature to the Technology and Science Secretariat are assigned to the Department of Economic Development; (
c) direct that all affairs and matters which have heretofore been assigned by or under any Act of the Legislature to the Minister responsible for the Technology and Science Secretariat are assigned to the Minister of Economic Development and direct that those affairs and matters be attached to the Department of Economic Development for administrative purposes; (
d) direct that the name of the Department of Economic Development be changed to the Office of Economic Development; (
e) direct that a reference in any Act of the Legislature or in any rule, order, regulation, by-law, ordinance or proceeding or in any document whatsoever to a department or secretariat or to a Minister or Deputy Minister of that department or secretariat to which affairs and matters transferred by this Order were previously assigned, and the name of which has been changed by this Order, whether the reference is by official name or otherwise, shall with respect to any subsequent transaction, matter or thing be held and construed to be a reference to the department or office or to the Minister, as the case may be, or the Deputy Minister or Chief Executive Officer of that department or office to which the affairs and matters have been transferred and the name of which has been changed; and (
f) appoint the Honourable Gordon D. Balser, a Member of the Executive Council, as the Minister of the Office of Economic Development.
