OIC Text: The Governor in Council on the report and recommendation of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General dated February 20, 2013, and pursuant to Sections 3 and 4 of

Chapter 252 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Legal Aid Act, is pleased, effective April 2, 2013, to: (

a) appoint Fred Colaiacovo of Halifax Regional Municipality (Halifax) as a Director of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission for a term of three years; (

b) appoint Richard W. Norman of Halifax Regional Municipality (Halifax) as a Director of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission for a term of three years; (

c) appoint Walter I. Yeadon of Halifax Regional Municipality (Brookside) as a Director of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission for a term of three years; (

d) provide that the remuneration of Fred Colaiacovo, Richard Norman and Walter Yeadon shall be at the rate of $150.00 for each day of meetings of the Commission or a committee of it, to a maximum of $600 for each fiscal year; (

e) direct that the reasonable expenses incurred by Fred Colaiacovo, Richard Norman and Walter Yeadon in performing their duties associated with the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission be paid in accordance with the guidelines approved for civil servants; and (

f) order that the Province shall defend, negotiate or settle claims or charges made against Fred Colaiacovo, Richard Norman and Walter Yeadon, and indemnify them from personal liability, provided that the Province is satisfied that the claim arises out of their activities in relation to their appointments and is not based on fraud or criminal activity and where the Province so defends them, the Province will be in control of the case.
