EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Bill would amend the City of St. John's

Act to change the requirement for a quorum at council meetings

from a 2/3 majority of the members present to a simple majority of

the complement of the councillors elected.

Be it enacted by the

Lieutenant-Governor and House of Assembly in Legislative

Session convened, as follows:

RSN1990 c17

as amended

Subsection 22(2) of the City of St. John's Act is repealed

and the following substituted:

(2) A majority of the members of the council

constitutes a quorum for the purpose of a meeting of the council.
