Restricted Vehicles—Identification and Registration Regulations

made under subsections 38(1) and 302(1) of the

Motor Vehicle Act

R.S.N.S. 1989, c. 293

O.I.C. 90-945 (effective August 1, 1990), N.S. Reg. 224/1990

amended to O.I.C. 2002-444 (effective September 27, 2002), N.S. Reg. 122/2002

1 The means of identification of a motor vehicle, motorcycle or trailer, while owned by the

Province of Nova Scotia, a city, town or municipality, an emergency vehicle while

owned by a volunteer fire department or a search and rescue vehicle referred to in clause

2(b), shall be

(

a) in respect of a motor vehicle or trailer, a single six inch by twelve inch

number plate attached to the rear of the motor vehicle or trailer, showing

black numerals and letters on a silver-white field and bearing the word

“RESTRICTED” at the top and the words “NOVA SCOTIA” at the

bottom; and

(

b) in respect of a motorcycle, a single five inch by eight inch number plate

attached to the rear of the motorcycle showing black numerals and letters on

a silver-white field and bearing the word “RESTRICTED” at the top and

the words “NOVA SCOTIA” at the bottom.

2 No fee is payable for the registration or for the issuance of a number plate for

(

a) a fire emergency vehicle while owned by the Province of Nova Scotia, a

city, town, municipality or volunteer fire department; or

(

b) a search and rescue vehicle owned by a party to an agreement with the

Emergency Measures Organization made pursuant to clause 8(

h) of the

Emergency Measures Act .

3 The vehicle permit, in respect of the registration of a vehicle mentioned in

Section 2,

shall state “restricted”.

4 The fees payable for the registration and the issuance of a number plate for a vehicle

mentioned in

Section 1, except for a vehicle exempted in

Section 2, are the standard fees

for that type of vehicle as provided for in the Act and regulations, payable on or before

October 15, 2002, and thereafter as required by the Act and regulations.

5 Notwithstanding Sections 1 and 3, the Registrar may issue standard vehicle permit and

number plate for a vehicle mentioned in

Section 1.

6 All regulations heretofore made by the Minister and approved by the Governor in

Council by Order in Council 73-763, dated the 24th day of July, 1973, and amendments

thereto, are repealed.

7 These regulations come into force on, from and after the 1st day of August, 1990.

the Emergency Measures Organization should be read as references to the

Emergency Management Office established by these amendments.
