Interpretation Act

OIC Text: The Governor in Council on the report and recommendation of the President of the Executive Council dated November 29, 2016, and pursuant to Sections 7, 24, 25J and 84 of

Chapter 376 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Public Service Act and

Section 10 of

Chapter 70 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Civil Service Act,

Section 18 of

Chapter 235 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the

Interpretation Act , and all authority in him vested, is pleased to: (

a) revoke the appointment of Peter Vaughan as Deputy Minister of Health and Wellness, effective December 31, 2016; (

b) appoint Tracey Barbrick as Acting Deputy Minister of Health and Wellness for the period January 1, 2017 – January 15, 2017; (

c) appoint Denise M. Perret, Q.C. as Deputy Minister of Health and Wellness effective January 16, 2017; (

d) effective December 12, 2016: (

i) revoke the appointment of Kim MacNeil as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture; (ii) revoke the appointment of Julie Towers as Chief Executive Officer of the Office of Aboriginal Affairs and Chief Executive Officer of the Office of Immigration; (iii) revoke the appointment of Frank Dunn as Deputy Minister of Natural Resources; (iv) revoke the appointment of Allan Eddy as Associate Deputy Minister of Natural Resources; (

v) appoint Kim MacNeil as Deputy Minister without portfolio until January 31, 2017; (vi) appoint Julie Towers as Deputy Minister of Natural Resources; (vii) appoint Frank Dunn as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture; (viii) appoint Allan Eddy as Associate Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Associate Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture; (ix) appoint Tracey Taweel as Chief Executive Officer of the Office of Immigration; (

x) appoint Justin Huston as Chief Executive Officer of the Office of Aboriginal Affairs; (

e) designate Kim MacNeil, Denise M. Perret, Q.C., Frank Dunn, Julie Towers, Allan Eddy, and Justin Huston as deputy heads within the meaning of the Civil Service Act ; (

f) fix and determine the salary of Kim MacNeil, Denise M. Perret, Q.C., Frank Dunn and Julie Towers to be at such rate as may be determined by the Deputy Minister of the Office of the Premier in accordance with the Senior Officials Pay Plan as it applies to Deputy Ministers; (

g) fix and determine the salary of Allan Eddy and Justin Huston to be at such rate as may be determined by the Deputy Minister of the Office of the Premier in accordance with the Senior Officials Pay Plan as it applies to Associate Deputy Ministers; and (

h) direct that Kim MacNeil, Denise M. Perret, Q.C., Frank Dunn, Julie Towers, Allan Eddy, and Justin Huston shall receive all customary benefits associated with the position of deputy head including participation in the Province of Nova Scotia Long Term Disability Plan and such other benefits as may be determined by the Deputy Minister of the Office of the Premier.
