Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women

Notice of Rescinding of Registered Historic Resources

(Historical Resources Act)

On December 9, 2020, amendments to the Historical Resources Act came into force

which eliminate the Registered Historic Resources designation. These amendments

were made in order to eliminate a designation that did not provide meaningful

protections to historic resources. Notice is hereby given that, pursuant to

Section 54

of the Historical Resources Act, all Registered Historic Resource orders are

rescinded.

The registration of Registered Historic Resources designations shall be removed from

certificates of title as soon as practicable. Owners will be notified in writing and

provided information regarding other historic resource designations available for their

property.

The Minister of Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women will retain records of

historic resources that were previously the subject of a Registered Historic Resources

Order.

(12) when a person inherits an historic resource that is subject to an

order under subsection (1), that person shall notify the Minister of

the inheritance within 15 days after the historic resource is

transferred to the person.
