OIC Text: The Governor in Council on the report and recommendation of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice dated April 5, 2023, and pursuant to Sections 3 and 4 of
Chapter 252 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Legal Aid Act , is pleased to: (
a) reappoint Fred Colaiacovo of Halifax Regional Municipality (Halifax) as a part-time director of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission for a term of three (3) years commencing April 27, 2023; (
b) appoint Wanda MacDonald of Boylston, Guysborough County, as a part-time director of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission for a term of three (3) years commencing April 27, 2023; (
c) order that Fred Colaiacovo and Wanda MacDonald be remunerated for their service in the amount of $150.00 for each day of meetings of the Commission or a committee of the Commission, to a maximum of $600.00 for each fiscal year and be reimbursed for reasonable expenses incurred in fulfilling their duties as part-time directors of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission provided any such reimbursement does not exceed that normally payable to members of the civil service; and (
d) order that the Province shall defend, negotiate, or settle claims or charges made against Fred Colaiacovo or Wanda MacDonald and indemnify them from personal liability, provided that the Province is satisfied that the claim arises out of their activities in relation to their appointment and is not based on fraud or criminal activity and where the Province so defends, the Province will be in control of the case.
