An Act to Amend the New Brunswick Income Tax Act Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, enacts as fol- lows: 1 The New Brunswick Income Tax Act,

chapter N-6.001 of the Acts of New Brunswick, 2000, is amended by adding after

section the following: Public safety volunteer deduction 61.1(1) There may be deducted from the tax otherwise payable under this Part by a taxpayer who is (

a) an auxiliary police constable or an auxiliary po- lice officer as defined under the Police Act; or (

b) a volunteer firefighter, whose membership in a fire brigade has been approved by the chief of a fire de- partment, $250 if the taxpayer has volunteered at least seventy-five hours but less than one hundred and fifty hours in the tax- ation year, or $500 if the taxpayer has volunteered one hundred and fifty hours or more in the taxation year. 61.1(2) A taxpayer claiming a deduction under subsec- tion (1) must obtain written confirmation of hours of vol- unteer service for the taxation year from the chief of po- PROJET DE LOI Loi modifiant la Loi de l’impôt sur le revenu du Nouveau-Brunswick Sa Majesté, sur l’avis et du consentement de l’Assem- blée législative du Nouveau-Brunswick, décrète : 1 La Loi de l’impôt sur le revenu du Nouveau- Brunswick,

partie par un contribuable qui est

a) soit constable auxiliaire ou agent de police auxi- liaire aux sens définis dans la

Loi sur la Police,

b) soit pompier volontaire d’un corps de pompiers auquel le chef d’un service d’incendie a approuvé son intégration, 250 $, si le contribuable a fourni dans l’année d’imposi- tion au moins soixante-quinze heures mais moins de cent cinquante heures de bénévolat, ou 500 $, s’il a fourni plus de cent cinquante heures de bénévolat. 61.1(2) Le contribuable qui réclame une déduction en vertu du paragraphe (1) doit obtenir du chef de police, du commandant de la Division J de la Gendarmerie royale du Projet de loi Loi modifiant la Loi de l'impôt sur le revenu du Nouveau-Brunswick lice or the officer commanding “J” Division of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police or the chief of the fire depart- ment. 2 This Act shall come into force on a day to be fixed by proclamation.
