OIC Text: The Governor in Council, on the report and recommendation of the Minister responsible for the Nova Scotia Police Complaints Commissioner and Minister responsible for the Nova Scotia Police Review Board dated May 24, 2024, and pursuant to
Section 11 of
Chapter 31 of the Acts of 2004, the Police Act , is pleased, effective June 1, 2024, to: (
a) appoint William MacDonald of Annapolis Royal, Annapolis County, to the position of Nova Scotia Police Complaints Commissioner for a term of three (3) years; (
b) order that William MacDonald be remunerated for his services in the amount of $65 per hour and be reimbursed for reasonable expenses incurred in fulfilling his duties as Police Complaints Commissioner provided that such reimbursement does not exceed that normally payable to members of the civil service; and (
c) order that the Province shall defend, negotiate or settle claims or charges made against William MacDonald and indemnify him from personal liability provided that the Province is satisfied the claim arises out of his activities in relation to his appointment as Nova Scotia Police Complaints Commissioner and is not based on fraud or criminal activity and where the Province so defends him, the Province will be in control of the case.
