backfill to address unanticipated failures in the existing pavement, and a quantity

increase for filter material to address an unanticipated slide and related construction

challenges. Construction completion in 2019.

slide where the ground conditions were poorer than anticipated, and to rehabilitate

highway culverts that were also in poorer condition than anticipated. Construction

Reason for Increase: The cost overrun is for additional work quantities to address

poor median drainage and the existing paved shoulders which were in poorer

condition than assessed during the design phase of the project. Construction

completion in 2021.

Reason for Increase: The cost overrun is for a number of additional work items,

including one for addressing corrosion in a pipe that was not anticipated, but

primarily for upgrading a drain on the canal running adjacent to the St. Mary's River

with a diversion turnout to address a potentially low reservoir level that was not

originally anticipated. Construction completion in 2022.

stabilization and required slope protection measures for unanticipated volumes of

with a new slide that occurred adjacent to the project site, which required a revised

work method for differing conditions. Construction completion in 2017.

protection, the extent of which is difficult to estimate in design, and environmental

mitigation measures, to deal with migratory birds, as extra work. Construction
