AN ACT TO AMEND THE BLIND OR DEAF PERSONS' RIGHTS ACT MR. LEE First Reading Second Reading Committee of the Whole Third Reading Royal Assent BILL

AN ACT TO AMEND THE BLIND OR DEAF PERSONS' ACT (Assented to , 1984) HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1 The Blind or Deaf Persons' Rights Act is amended by this Act. 2

Section is amended by adding the following after subsection (4):

(5) Notwithstanding subsection (3) a blind person with a guide dog or deaf person with a hearing dog visiting, receiving services at or admitted to a hospital or other institution shall be provided with such accommodation and care for the dog as is reasonably necessary to enable the person to continue to receive the assistance of the dog while he is at the hospital or institution.

(6) The Minister of Hospitals and Medical Care may make regulations providing for the manner in which reasonable accommodation and care for the dog are to be provided pursuant to subsection (5). In accordance with section 4(1) of the Interpre tation Act, this Bill comes into force on the date it receives RoyalAssent. Explanatory Notes This Bill will amend

chapter B-6 of the Revised Statutes of Alberta 1980. 2 This will provide for accommodation and care for guide dogs and hearing dogs accompanying patients to hospitals and other institutions. Title: 1984 (20th, 2nd) Bill 222,
