LEIBOVICI First Reading Second Reading Committee of the Whole Third Reading Royal Assent Title: 1993 (23rd, 1st) Bill 249, Employment Standards Code Amendment Act, 1993 Bill Ms. Leibovici BILL 249 EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS CODE AMENDMENT ACT, 1993 (Assented to , 1993) HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1 The Employment Standards code is amended by this Act. 2

Section 64(2) is amended by striking out "18 weeks" and substituting "26 weeks". 3

Section 70(2) is amended by striking out "8 weeks" and substituting "18 weeks". 4 This Act comes into force on Proclamation. 1 Explanatory Notes This Bill will amend

chapter E 10.2 of the Statutes of Alberta, 1988. 2

Section 64(2) presently reads:

(2) A pregnant employee referred to in subsection (1) is entitled to maternity leave of (

a) a period not exceeding 18 weeks commencing at any time during the period of 12 weeks immediately preceding the estimated date of delivery, and (

b) if the actual date of delivery is after the estimated date of delivery, an additional period consisting of the time between the estimated date of delivery and the actual date of delivery. 3

Section 70(2) presently reads:

(2) Adoption leave consists of a period of not more than 8 weeks of leave without pay commencing on the date on which the adoptive parent first obtains custody of the child being adopted. 1 Title: 1993 (23rd, 1st) Bill 249, Employment Standards Code Amendment Act, 1993
