Citation
Definitions
When nurse practitioner authorized to complete and sign medical certificate of death
Citation
1 These regulations may be cited as the Medical Certificate of Death Regulations .
Definitions
2 In these regulations,
“attending nurse practitioner” means a nurse practitioner who has responsibility for
the treatment and care of a person or, if 2 or more nurse practitioners share that
responsibility, any 1 of those nurse practitioners;
“medical certificate of death” means a medical certificate of cause of death required
by subsection 17(3) of the Vital Statistics Act .
When nurse practitioner authorized to complete and sign medical certificate of death
3 An attending nurse practitioner may complete and sign a medical certificate of death for a
person for whose treatment and care the attending nurse practitioner was responsible if
(
a) the person’s death was expected as the result of a diagnosed chronic or acute
illness or condition; and
(
b) there is no reason to believe that the person’s death was a result of any of the
circumstances referred to in Sections 9 to 12 of the Fatality Investigations Act .
