Explanatory Note I. This Bill amends The Highways Department Act, which is

chapter 140 of the Revised Statutes. 2.

Section to, subsections (2) and (3) presently read: "

(2) The Provincial Treasurer, upon the requisition of the Minister, may make advances frO'm the General Revenu~ Fund to' the stock advance fund of such sums as the Minister may require to. pay fQr machinery, equipment, stock or material required by the Department.

(3) The net amount Qf the advances at any time shall not exceed nine million five hundred thO'usand do]1ars O'r such lesser amount as may be fixed from time to time by the Lieutenant Governor in CO'unett. ...

Section 11, subsection (3) presently reads: "

(3) Where machinery, equipment, stock Qr material purchased out Qf the stock advance fund is no lO'nger required, the Miruister may sell Qr otherwise dispose of it on such terms and conditiO'ns as the Minist~r deems proper.". 4. Commencement of Act.

BILL No. 68 of 1964

An Act to amend The Highways Department Act (Assented to , 1964) HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alherta, enacts as follows: 1. The Highways DelJartment Act is hereby amended.

Section 10 is amended (

a) as to subsection (2) by adding after the word "equipment," the word "land,", (

b) by adding the following subsection after subsec tion (3):

(4) The Provincial Treasurer shall not make advances to the stock advance fund for the pur chase of land in excess of two hundred thousand dollars in anyone year, nor shall more than fifty thousand dollars be advanced for the payment of anyone parcel of land.

Section 11, subsection (3) is amended by adding after the word "equipment," the word "land,". 4. This Act COllles into force on the day upon which it is assented to.
