EXPLANATORY NOTE NOTE EXPLICATIVE Under this Bill, a person may be appointed as chief electoral officer only after the appointment has be en recommended by the Standing Committee on Legislativ e Affairs and approved by a vote of more than two-thi rds of the members of the Assembly who vote. BILL 229 PROJET DE LOI 229 THE ELECTIONS AMENDMENT ACT LOI MODIFIANT LA LOI ÉLE CTORALE (Assented to ) (Date de sanction : ) HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows: SA MAJESTÉ, sur l'avis et avec le consentement de l'Assemblée législative du Manitoba, édicte : C.C.S.M. c. E30 amended 1 The Elections Act is amended by this Act. Modification du c. E30 de la C.P.L.M. 1 La présente loi modifie la Loi électorale . 2 Subsection 22(2) is repealed. 2 Le paragraphe 22(2) est abrogé. 3

Section 23 is replaced with the following: 3 L'artic le 23 est remplacé par ce qui suit : Appointing chief electoral officer 23 The chief electoral officer must be appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council (

a) on the recommendation of the Standing Committee on Legislative Affairs; and (
