OIC Text: The Governor in Council on the report and recommendation of the President of the Executive Council dated October 14, 2004, and pursuant to

Section 86 of

Chapter 376 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Public Service Act,

Section 18 of

Chapter 235 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the

Interpretation Act,

Section 2 of

Chapter 377 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Public Service Superannuation Act and all other authority in him vested, is pleased to: (

a) revoke the appointment of Jamie Baillie as Administrative Assistant and Chief of Staff to the Premier effective October 18, 2004; (

b) appoint Jane Purves as Administrative Assistant and Chief of Staff to the Premier effective October 18, 2004, on such terms and conditions as may be approved from time to time by Treasury and Policy Board; (

c) designate Jane Purves to be and to have been an employee for the purposes of the Public Service Superannuation Act; (

d) direct that Jane Purves shall receive all customary benefits associated with the position of deputy head including participation in the Province of Nova Scotia Long Term Disability Plan; and (

e) order that the Province shall defend, negotiate or settle claims or charges made against Jane Purves and indemnify her from personal liability, provided that the Province is satisfied that the claim arises out of her activities in relation to her employment and is not based upon fraud or criminal activity and where the Province so defends her, the Province will be in control of the case.
