EXPLANATORY NOTES

This Bill would amend the Health Professions Act to

clarify who may be elected

chairperson of the Newfoundland

and Labrador Council of Health Professionals; and

allow the secretary-treasurer

to be elected from all members of the Newfoundland

and Labrador Council of Health Professionals.

AN ACT TO AMEND THE

HEALTH PROFESSIONS ACT

Composition of council

Be it enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor and

House of Assembly in Legislative Session convened, as follows:

SNL2010 cH-1.02

as amended

1. (1) Paragraph 8(1)(

a) of the Health Professions Act is repealed and

the following substituted:

(

a) the elected chairperson of each college

established under this Act and one other member elected from and by each

college in accordance with the councils by-laws; and

(2) Subsection 8(3) of the Act is repealed and the

following substituted:

(3) The council shall elect from among the elected

members of the council a chairperson.

(3) Section 8 of the Act is amended by adding

immediately after subsection (3) the following:

(3.1) The council shall elect from among the members

of the council a secretary-treasurer.
