Statute: Sydney Steel Corporation Act

OIC Text: The Governor in Council on the report and recommendation of the Minister responsible for the Sydney Steel Corporation Act dated February 5, 2003, and pursuant to Sections 8 and 11 of

Chapter 456 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Sydney Steel Corporation Act, is pleased to: (

a) revoke the appointment of William D. Hogg as a member of the Board of Directors of Sydney Steel Corporation, which appointment was made by Order in Council 2001-46 dated February 2, 2001; (

b) revoke the appointment of Howard Windsor as Chair of the Board of Directors of Sydney Steel Corporation, which appointment was made by Order in Council 2001-46 dated February 2, 2001; (

c) appoint Robert L. Abbott of Halifax, Halifax Regional Municipality, as a member of the Board of Directors of Sydney Steel Corporation; (

d) appoint Brian Stonehouse of Dartmouth, Halifax Regional Municipality, as Chair of the Board of Directors of Sydney Steel Corporation; and (

e) order that the Province defend, negotiate or settle claims or charges made against the Directors, President and Chief Executive Officer appointed by the Province and indemnify them from personal liability, provided the Province is satisfied the claim or charge arising out of their activities in relation to their appointment is not based on fraud or criminal activity, and where the Province so defends them, the Province will be in control of the case.
