Explanatory Note

Section 6, subsection (2) presently reads: "

(2) The property liable to asse-ssment and taxation in any speoial area is the property declared to be so Hable by The Assessment Act .... 3. A new

section is added to provide for the special areas having the option of either levying property taxes against machinery and equipment, or levying a business tax, but not both. 4. Commencement of Act.

An Act to amend The Special Areas Act (Assented to , 1961) HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1. The Special Areas Act, being

chapter 317 of the Re vised Statutes, is hereby amended.

Section 6, subsection (2) is amended by adding im mediately at the end thereof the words "and The Electric Power and Pipe Line Assessment Act". 3. The following new

section is added immediately after

section 6: Ga. Notwithstanding the provisions of this or any other Act the Minister, by order, may exempt from taxation, all or such percentage of the assessment of improvements as de scribed in subclause (iii) of clause (

i) of

section 2 of The Assessment Act, 1960, as he deems advisable. 4.

(1) This Act, except

section 3, comes into force on the day upon which it is assented to and upon so coming into force

section 2 shall be deemed to have been in force at all times on and after the thirty-first day of December, 1960.

(2) Section 3 comes into force on the first day of January, 1962.
