2ND SESSION, 40TH LEGISLATURE, ONTARIO 62 ELIZABETH II, 2013 2e SESSION, 40e LÉGISLATURE, ONTARIO 62 ELIZABETH II, 2013 Bill 19 Projet de loi 19

An Act to amend the Taxpayer Protection Act, 1999 Loi modifiant la Loi de 1999 sur la protection des contribuables Mr. Hillier M. Hillier Private Member’s Bill Projet de loi de député 1st Reading March 5, 2013 2nd Reading 3rd Reading Royal Assent 1 re lecture 5 mars 2013 2 e lecture 3 e lecture Sanction royale Printed by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario Imprimé par l’Assemblée législative de l’Ontario

EXPLANATORY NOTE NOTE EXPLICATIVE The Taxpayer Protection Act, 1999 presently contains restric- tions on introducing a government bill to increase or permit the increase of a tax rate under a tax statute designated in the Act o r to give a body or person, other than the Crown, the authority to change a tax rate in a designated tax statute or to levy a new tax. The Bill amends the Act to extend those restrictions to a bill tha t amends those restrictions or that repeals the Act.

The Bill also removes the present exemption from those re- quirements for a bill that gives a municipality the authority to levy a new tax.
