The Honourable D.L. Brothers presented to Mr. Speaker a Message from His Honour the Lieutenant-Governor.

On the motion of Mr. Brothers, Bill (No. 47) intituled

An Act to Amend the Public Schools Act , was introduced, read a first time, and Ordered to be placed on the Orders of the Day for second reading at the next sitting after today.

MR. SPEAKER: The Honourable the Minister for Municipal Affairs.

HON. D.R.J. CAMPBELL (Comox): I rise on a matter of personal

privilege. I had intended to deal with this personal matter of

privilege in some appropriate fashion during the course of my

estimates. However, the matter referred to has now been given some

unacceptable prominence in the Friday, February 26, 1971, edition of

the Vancouver Sun ,

wherein it is referred to in a column by Allan Fotheringham. As such

comments about one's personal life have a tendency to gain credence by

repetition I wish, in the strongest possible terms, to take exception

to the introduction to this Assembly of innuendos of any kind affecting

the personal life of a Member. The Member for Burnaby-Edmonds is

responsible for disgracing this Assembly in terms of his remarks about

a certain relationship which he claims I have in San Francisco. For the

record… (interruption) .

MR. SPEAKER: Order, please.

MR. CAMPBELL: For the record, I wish to state that I have

been in San Francisco three times during my life and, on each occasion,

I was there with my girl friend, who also happens to be my wife. At the

present time I do not wish to take this matter further. I ask only for

a simple and unqualified withdrawal (interruption) .

MR. SPEAKER: Order, please.

Pursuant to Order, the House again resolved itself into the Committee of Supply.

The Committee rose, reported progress, and asked leave to sit again.

The Honourable C.M. Shelford, on behalf of the Honourable W.A.C. Bennett, President of the Council, presented The Milk Board Annual Report for the year ended December 31, 1970.

The Honourable R.G. Williston, Minister of Lands, Forests, and Water Resources, presented the Annual Report of the British Columbia Water Resources Service to the Department of Lands, Forests, and Water Resources for the year ended December 31, 1970 in manuscript form.

The House adjourned at 5:58 p.m.

The House met at 8:00 p.m.

Pursuant to Order, the House again resolved itself into the Committee of Supply.

The Committee rose, reported Resolutions 85 and 86, Estimates of the

Department of Health Services and Hospital Insurance, and asked leave

to sit again.

The House adjourned at 10:57 p.m.
