81 Tuesday, May 6th, 2014 The House met at 1:30 o’clock in the afternoon pursuant to adjournment. The Member for Lewisporte (Mr. Ver ge) made a Statemen t to congratulate Michael Austin for his athletic accomplishments. The Member for Baie Verte – Springd ale (Mr. Pollard) made a Statement to congratulate the Springdale Pe e Wee hockey team which won the gold medal at the Provincial championship. The Member for Lake Melville (Mr. Russe ll) made a Statement to recognize the graduating class of Eric G. Lambert High School. The Member for Bay of Islands (Mr.

Jo yce) made a Statement to congratulate Jamie Hickey who won a gold medal in the Bantam Boys’ Singles Division of the Youth Bowling Canada Nationals in Winnipeg. The Member for St. John’s North (Mr. Ki rby) made a Statemen t to congratulate Caighlan Smith on her accomplishments as an author. The Member for Mount Pearl Sout h (Mr. Lane) made a Statement about the Mount Pearl Kinsmen Club Celebrity Karaoke charity fundraising event. The Honourable the Minister of Innov ation, Business and Rural Development (Ms. Sullivan) made a Statement to recognize Innovation Week 2014.

The Honourable the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation (Mr. S. Collins) made a Statement to recognize individua ls honoured recently at Sport Newfoundland and Labrador’s Stars and Legends Awards gala. The Member for Exploits (Mr. Forsey) presented the Report of the Government Services Committee. The Honourable the Minist er of Transportation and Works (Mr. McGrath) tabled the following documents: (

a) the Tender Book for Project No. 1-12PHP – Paving of a segment of the Trans-Labrador Highway; (

b) the Performance Bo nd for Project No. 001-12PHP; (

c) the Labour and Material s Bond for Project No. 001-12PHP; (

d) a letter from Gary Gosse, P.Eng to Mr. Gene Coleman relating to Project No. 01-12PHP. 82 Tuesday, May 6th, 2014 The Honourable the Minister of Natural Resources (Mr. Dalley) gave notice that he would on tomorrow ask leave to introduc e a Bill entitled “An Act To Amend The Mineral Act” (Bill No. 15). The Honourable the Minister of Advanc ed Education and Skills (Mr. O’Brien) gave notice that he would on tomorrow ask leav e to introduce a Bill entitled “An Act To Amend The Student Financial Assistance Act” (Bill No. 16). The Member for St. John’s Centre (Ms.

Rogers) presented a Petition from certain residents of the Province calling upon the H ouse of Assembly to urge Government to reinstate the Family Violence Intervention Court. The Member for Carbonear – Harbour Grace (Mr. Slade) presented a Petition from certain residents of the Province ca lling upon the House of Assembly to urge Government to commence the construction of the regional stadiu m in Harbour Grace immediately. The Member for St. John’s South (Mr.

Osborne) presented a Petition from certain residents of the Province calling upon the H ouse of Assembly to urge Government to consider keeping Holy Cross school open. The Member for Bay of Islands (Mr. Jo yce) presented a Petition from certain residents of the Province calling upon the H ouse of Assembly to urge Government to commit to the planning and construction of a new hospital in Corner Brook without further delay or changes. The Member for The Straits – White Bay North (Mr.

Mitchelmore) presented a Petition from certain residents of the Provin ce calling upon the House of Assembly to urge Government to preserve midwifery services at Curtis Memorial Hospital. The Member for Mount Pear l South (Mr. Lane) presented a Petition from certain residents of the Province calling upon the H ouse of Assembly to urge Government to change the outdated 1.6 km school busing eligibilit y policy in order to ensure safe travel to school for primary and elementary school children. The Honourable the Government House Leader (Mr.

King) moved, pursuant to Standing Order that the H ouse not adjourn at 5:30 o’clo ck in the afternoon and that the House not adjourn at o’clock in the evening. The Speaker put the question on the moti ons that the House not adjourn at 5:30 o’clock in the afternoon and at o’clock in the evening and declared the motions carried. 83 Tuesday, May 6th, 2014 The Honourable the Government H ouse Leader (Mr. King) gave notice and moved by leave that the Member for Lake Me lville replace the Member for Fortune Bay – Cape La Hune as a Member of the Public Accounts Committee.

The Speaker put the question on the motion and declared the motion carried. Pursuant to order and on motion debat e continued on the amendment to the Budget motion (being a non-confidence moti on) and on motion debate was adjourned for further debate on tomorrow. Pursuant to order and on motion debat e commenced on Second Reading of a Bill entitled “An Act Respecting Public Interest Disclosure” (Bill No. 1). By agreement the proceedings were suspen ded at 5:30 o’clock in the afternoon for the dinner break. The Speaker resumed the Chair at 7:00 o’clock in the evening.

Debate continued on Second Re ading of a Bill entitled “An Act Respecting Public Interest Disclosure” (Bill No. 1) and on motion debate wa s adjourned for further debate on tomorrow. It was moved and seconded that when t he House rose it would adjourn until tomorrow, Wednesday, May th at 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon. On motion the House then adjourned accordingly.
