BILL No. 15 of 1915.

An Act to incorporate the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis of Medicine Hat. (Assented to ' 1915.) WHEREAS a petition has been presented praying that the association of nuns known as the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis of Medicine Hat may be vested with corporate powers and be a body politic, corporate in deed and in name by the name of the "Sisters of Charity of St. Louis of M~dicine Hat"; And whereas it is expedient to grant their prayers; Therefore His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1.

The Reverend Sisters Mary of .Jesus, of Vannes, in the Province of Brittainy, France; Theresa of .Jesus, of the City of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec; and Saint Gurval, of the City of Medicine Hat, in the Province of Alberta, and such other persons as are now or may hereafter become under the provisions of this Act members of the said association shall be and are hereby declared to be a body politic, corporate in deed and in name by the name oi "Sisters of Charity of St.

Louis of Medicine Hat" for the following purposes and objects, namely: The carrying on of charitable works comprising missions and congregations for ladies, orphanages, schools, boarding schools, novitiates, day refuges, working places, house keeping schools, agricultural orphanages, industrial schools, deaf and dumb institutes, hospitals, homes for incurables, dispensaries, boarding houses for infirm and aged persons, and to impart education and moral training to pupils in convents and schools. 2.

The said corporation shall have perpetual succession and a common seal and may at all times hereafter contract and be contracted with, including the borrowing of money on mortgage or promissory note, sue and be sued, implead and be impleaded in any matter whatsoever in all courts and places whatsoever in this province. 3.

The corporation shall have power from time to time and at all times hereaft~r to acquire by gift, devise, bequest, transfer, purchase or otherwise for the benefit of the corporation any land or real or personal estate and the same or any part thereof, may from time to time dispose of by sale, transfer or mortgage, lease, exchange or otherwise and with the proceeds therefrom may acquire other lands, tenements, hereditaments and other property (real or personal) or invest the same in any Recurity whatsoever for the use of the corporation. 4-.

The revenues, issues nud profits of all property (real o.r personal) held by the corporation shall be appropriated and applied to the maintenance of the members of the corporation and of the institutions carried on by the corporation and the construction and repair of buildings and the acquisition of property (real or personal) requisite for the purposes of the corporation and for the advance ment of charity and benevolence. 2 5.

The head ofTice of the corpomtion ~hall be at the City of Medicine Hat, in the Province of Alberta, or at such other place in the province as may from time to time be determined by the by-laws of the corporation. 6. The corpomtion may from time to time have or establish and maintain any nurnher of hram~hes thereof to promote the objects of the corporation and for such purposes may appoint such subordinate officers with such powers and tenure of office as the corporation may deem advisable. 7.

It shall be lawful for the corporation to make by-la,:ws, rules, orders and rC'gulations for the government and proper administration of the property, affairs and interests of the said corporation, and to repeal and amend the same from time to time including the enforcement of discipline and the admission and retirement of members, the appoint mrnt, deposition or removal of any person as member of the corporation or bearing office therein and generally for the internal government of affairs of tht> said cor poration. 8.

Until otherwise directed by by-laws the present existing officers of the said association shall be officers with like powers and privileges of the said corporation and the present existing rules and regulatiom; of the said association shall mutatis m·ntandis he the rules and regu lations of the said corporation until changed by by-law. 9. The said corporation shall have power to appoint one or more attorney~ for such purposes as they may think fit. 10. No member of the said corporation shall be liable individually or aceountable for the debts, contraets or seeurities of the said corporation. 11.

The .said corpomtion may exercise or carry on any indu:'ltry that may help them to maintain their institution and may bargain and sell the products of the same, provided they conform to the laws of the province. 12. The corporation shall at all times when called upon so to do by the Lieutenant Governor in Council render an account in writing of their propmty and business affairs. 13.
