Commencement

This Bill recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a public holiday in British Columbia and establishes it as a statutory holiday under the Employment Standards Act .

HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in British Columbia

1 The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, observed on September 30, is a public holiday.

Related Amendments

Election Act

Section 1 (1) of the Election Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 106, is amended in paragraph (

b) of the definition of "holiday" by adding " National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, " after " Labour Day, ".

Employment Standards Act

Section 1 (1) of the Employment Standards Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 113, is amended in the definition of "statutory holiday" by adding " National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, " after " Labour Day, ".

Interpretation Act

Section 29 of the

Interpretation Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 238, is amended in paragraph (

b) of the definition of "holiday" by adding " National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, " after " Labour Day, ".

Commencement

5 This Act comes into force on the date of Royal Assent.

Explanatory Note

This Bill recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a public holiday in British Columbia and establishes it as a statutory holiday under the Employment Standards Act .
