OIC Text: The Governor in Council on the report and recommendation of the Minister responsible for the Sydney Steel Corporation Act dated May 31, 2001, and pursuant to Sections 8 and 11 of

Chapter 456 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Sydney Steel Corporation Act, is pleased to: (

a) revoke the appointment of Gordon D. Balser as a Director of Sydney Steel Corporation, which appointment was made by Order in Council 1999-442 dated September 14, 1999; (

b) revoke the appointment of James A. Rudderham of Sydney, Cape Breton Regional Municipality, as President and Chief Executive Officer of Sydney Steel Corporation, which appointment was made by Order in Council 1999-359 dated July 6, 1999; (

c) appoint Daniel Graham of Halifax, Halifax Regional Municipality, as a member of the Board of Directors of Sydney Steel Corporation effective June 1, 2001; (

d) appoint John W. Traves of Halifax, Halifax Regional Municipality, as President and Chief Executive Officer of Sydney Steel Corporation effective June 1, 2001; and (

e) order that the Province defend, negotiate or settle claims or charges made against the Directors, President and Chief Executive Officer appointed by the Province and indemnify them from personal liability, provided the Province is satisfied the claim or charge arising out of their activities in relation to their appointment is not based on fraud or criminal activity, and where the Province so defends them, the Province will be in control of the case.
