EXPLANATORY NOTE NOTE EXPLICATIVE This Bill proclaims June 25 to July 1 in each year as Somali Heritage Week. En vertu du présent projet de loi, la semaine du 25 juin au 1er juillet est proclamée « Semaine du patrimoine somalien ».

BILL 218 PROJET DE LOI 218 THE SOMALI HERITAGE WEEK ACT

WHEREAS Somali Canadians make significant and important cultural, economic, political and social contributions to Manitoba; AND

WHEREAS the week of June 25 to July 1 includes significant dates in the history of the Somali community, including independence celebrations for Somalia, Somaliland and Djibouti, which are held on June 26, June 27 and July 1; AND

WHEREAS these dates represent important moments of pride, resilience and self-determination for all Somalis in East Africa and the Horn of Africa; AND

WHEREAS celebrations are held in Manitoba during this week that reflect the rich culture, heritage and traditions of the Somali people and celebrate independence, liberty and freedom; AND

WHEREAS Somali Heritage Week is an opportunity to recognize, reflect on and celebrate the history and culture of the Somali regions in Africa and the diversity and immeasurable strength that Somali Canadians add to Manitoba; Attendu : que les Somalo-Canadiens contribuent de manière significative à la richesse culturelle, économique, politique et sociale du Manitoba; que la semaine du 25 juin au 1er juillet comprend des dates marquantes de l'histoire de la communauté somalienne, notamment celles qui soulignent l'indépendance de la Somalie, du Somaliland et de Djibouti les 26 et 27 juin et le 1er juillet; que ces dates représentent de grands moments de fierté, de résilience et d'autodétermination pour tous les Somaliens d'Afrique orientale et de la Corne de l'Afrique; que pendant cette semaine, des célébrations qui reflètent la richesse de la culture, du patrimoine et des traditions de la population somalienne et qui commémorent l'indépendance et la liberté se déroulent au Manitoba; que la Semaine du patrimoine somalien est l'occasion de reconnaître et de célébrer l'histoire et la culture des régions somaliennes d'Afrique ainsi que la diversité et l'immense force que les Somalo-Canadiens apportent au Manitoba et d'y réfléchir, 1
