Declaration of Consent Awareness Week
(Special Days Act)
WHEREAS the Government of Alberta recognizes that every student attending post-
secondary education in Alberta has the right to live free from sexual harassment and
violence;
WHEREAS the first six weeks of the academic semester are considered a high-risk
time for sexual violence;
WHEREAS the Government of Alberta is committed to increasing awareness of
consent and healthy relationships, particularly among Alberta's youth, a population
that disproportionately experiences sexual violence;
WHEREAS students, post-secondary institutions, and community-based
organizations across Alberta acknowledge the third week of September as a time to
raise awareness of consent; and
WHEREAS Consent Awareness Week in Alberta will provide an opportunity each
September to increase the awareness of the importance of consent;
THEREFORE I, Rajan Sawhney, Minister of Advanced Education, pursuant to
section 3 of the Special Days Act, hereby declare the third week of September,
commencing on the third Monday in September and concluding on the following
Friday, as Consent Awareness Week in perpetuity in the Province of Alberta.

Decision on Geographical Name
Notice is hereby given that pursuant to Band Council Resolution 2024-12 of the
Stoney Nakoda Nations, authorized on June 20, 2024, the following name change was
made by the Stoney Nakoda Nations to an on-reserve place, effective July 1, 2024.

- On the Stoney 142-143-144 reserve, approximately 50 kilometres west of
Calgary.
The name Morley was given to the area by Reverend George McDougal who named
the community for prominent Methodist minister and President of the Wesleyan
Methodist Church in Canada Reverend William Morley Punshon (1824-1881). The
mission was established in 1873 and eventually came to be site of day schools, the
McDougal Orphanage and Training School and the Morley Residential School.
The Stoney Nakoda Nations knew the area as MŒnŒ ThnŒ, which translates as "cold
water," a reference to the Bow River, and have used that name for the townsite for
generations.
The Stoney Nakoda First Nations (Bearspaw First Nation, Chiniki First Nation and
Goodstoney First Nation) adopt the name MŒnŒ ThnŒ as the townsite's official name to
better reflect Stoney Nakoda history and culture and to remove the name Morley as a
reminder of the impacts of colonialism to the Stoney Nakoda.
