ORDER

1 In this Order "annexed land" means the land described in Appendix A

and shown on the sketch in Appendix B.

2 For taxation purposes in 2001 and later years up to and including

2005, the annexed land and the assessable improvements to it must

(

a) be assessed by the Town of Stettler on the same basis as if

they had remained in The County of Stettler No.6, and

(

b) be taxed by the Town of Stettler in respect of each assessment

class that applies to the annexed land and the assessable improvements to

it using the tax rate established by The County of Stettler No.6.

Section 2 ceases to apply to a portion of the annexed land and the

assessable improvements to it in the taxation year immediately following

the taxation year in which

(

a) the portion becomes a new parcel of land created as a result of

subdivision or separation of title by registered plan of subdivision or by

instrument or any other method that occurs at the request of, or on behalf

of, the landowner,

(

b) the portion becomes a residual portion after a new parcel

referred to in clause (

a) has been created and the residual portion is 3

acres or less, or

(

c) the portion is, at the request of or on behalf of the

landowner, redesignated by an amendment to the Town of Stettler Land Use

Bylaw.

4 After

section 2 ceases to apply to a portion of the annexed land in a

taxation year, the portion of the annexed land and the assessable

improvements to it must be assessed and taxed for the purposes of property

taxes in that year on the same basis as the assessment and taxation of

property of the same assessment class in the Town of Stettler.

NOTICE OF INTENTION TO DESIGNATE PROVINCIAL HISTORIC RESOURCE

(Historical Resources Act)

Notice is hereby given that sixty days from the date of service of this

Notice and its publication in the Alberta Gazette, the Minister of

Community Development intends to make an Order that geological formation

known as the Hoodoos, together with the land legally described as portion

of LSD 12,

Section 7, Township 28, Range 18, W4M as shown on

Schedule A,

attached, and municipally located near East Coulee, Alberta

be designated a Provincial Historic Resource under

section 16 of the

Historical Resources Act, R.S.A. 1980 c.H-8 as amended.

The reason for the designation are as follows:

Hoodoos are a relatively rare geological formation that is formed by

differential weathering and erosion by water, wind and frost. They consist

of a hard, well cemented "caprock" which protects and supports the softer,

underlying column. The result is the formation of strangely shaped

pinnicales or pillars of rock. Within the perspective of geological time,

hoodoos are fragile and extremely temporary landforms.

The hoodoos situated between Drumheller and East Coulee, Alberta are an

excellent example of the type of hoodoos found along the major river

valleys of the plains. They are developed in soft cretaceous-bedrock with

the caprocks eroding out of the harder sandstone beds within the formation.

The Hoodoos are situated adjacent to the highway between East Coulee and

Drumheller. They are very photogenic and are a popular tourist attraction.

The Hoodoos are very well known and have become an internationally

recognized icon of the badlands of Alberta. Owing to their location they

are highly susceptible to damage from tourism related activity and

vandalism.

It is therefore considered that the preservation and protection of the

resource is in the public interest.

Alberta as a Provincial Historical Resource,

Historic Resource or remove any historic object from a Provincial Historic

(11) the owner of an historic resource that is subject to an order

under subsection (1) shall at least 30 days prior to the sale or any other

disposition of the historic resource, serve notice of the proposed or other

disposition upon the Minister.

(12) when a person inherits an historic resource that is subject to

an order under subsection (1), that person shall notify the Minister of the

inheritance within 15 days of the historic resource being transferred to

him.
