Explanatory Note 2. Clause (g), subclause (

i) presently reads: "(g) "widow" lnclud!!s "(

I) the wife of a person committed to a hospital under the pro visions of The Mental Diseases Act and actually an Inmate th!!reof, and".

Section 3 presently reads as follows: "3. The Minister may provide for the payment of a pension not ex ceeding the sum of forty dollars a month tQ a widow "(

a) who at the date of the proposed commencement of payments to her "(

I) has attained the age of sixty years but not yet reached the age of slxty-ftve years, "(UJ has resided In Canada or Newfoundland for the ftfteen years Immediately preceding the date she attained tl;le age of sixty years and has continued to so reside since that time, or It she has not so resided for fifteen )·ears has been present In Canada or Newfoundland prior to those fifteen years for an aggregate period equal to twice the aggregate period of absences from Canada or Newfoundland durtng those ftfteen years, "(Ill) has resided In the Province for a greater portion of three yl!ars Immediately preceding that date, and "(lv) Is not, for the purposes ot health and welfare services, the responsibility of the Governnwnt of Canada, "(

b) who IR not In rec~lpt of an allowance under the Blind Person~ Act (Canada) or of an allowance under The Mothers' Allowance Act, and "(

c) whose Income lnclush•e of the pension Is not more than seven hundred and twenty dollars n year.".

Section 4 reads in part: "4. The Lieutenant Oo\·ernor In Council may make regulations for carrying the purposes and provisions of this Act Into effect, and, without lhnltlng the gen~rnllty of the foregoing, may make regulations providing for". This provision rEplaces clause (

c) of

section 3.

BILL No. 122 of 1957

An Act to amend The Widows' Pensions Act (Assented to , 1957) HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1. The Widows' Pensions Act, being

chapter 368 of the Revised Statutes of Alberta, 1955, is hereby amended.

Section 2, clause (

g) is amended by striking out sub clause (

i) and by substituting the following: "(

i) a wife whose husband is a patient in a hospital under The Mental Diseases Act for a continu ous period of one month or longer, or is a wife whose husband is a patient in a sanatorium under The Tuberculosis Act for a continuous period of one month or longer, and".

Section 3 is amended (

a) by striking out the word "forty" and by substitut ing the word "forty-six", (

b) by adding immediately at the end of clause (

a) the word "and", (

c) by striking out clause (

b) and by substituting the following: "(

b) who is not in receipt of an allowance or pension under "(

i) The Blind Pe1·sons Act, "(ii) The Disabled Persons' Pensions Act, "(iii) The Disabled Pe1·sons Act, or "(iv) The Mothers' Allowance Act,", (

d) by striking out clause (c).

Section 4 is amended (

a) by striking out the word "and" at the end of clause (g), (

b) by adding immediately at the end of clause (

h) the word "and",

c) by adding immediately after clause (

h) the follow ing clause: " (

i) the test of financial means with which each applicant for an allowance must comply.". 5. This Act comes into force on the day upon which the Revised Statutes of Alberta, 1955, come into force and upon so coming into force shall be deemed to have been in force at all times on and after the first day of July, 1957.
