EXPLANATORY NOTES

This Bill would amend the Public Tender Act to

(

a) remove from the Act the exemption of

Newfoundland and

Labrador Hydro; and

(

b) permit a minister to approve a request for

proposals.

At present the approval of the

Lieutenant-Governor in Council is required.

The amendment would also provide that the Lieutenant-Governor in Council

authority to approve a request for proposals.

b) of the Public Tender Act is amended by

(

a) striking out the words "but does not

include" after subparagraph (viii); and

(

b) striking out subparagraph (ix).
