Number Plates for Licensed Radio Amateurs Regulations

made under

Section 38 of the

Motor Vehicle Act

R.S.N.S. 1989, c. 293

1 The means of identification or proof of registration to be attached to a commercial

motor vehicle having a registered weight of 6000 lbs. or less or a passenger motor

vehicle that is registered in the name of a radio amateur licensed by Industry

Canada who has applied for and has been granted a special permit bearing the call

sign assigned to him by Industry Canada shall be a number plate of standard size

bearing the words "Nova Scotia", the year of issue of the permit or an abbreviation

of it and the call sign so assigned to the person.

2 An application for a special permit under these regulations shall be in such form

and contain such information as the Registrar from time to time prescribes.

3 When an application in the prescribed form has been submitted to the Registrar

before the last day of February in any year accompanied by the prescribed fee, if

the Registrar is satisfied that the motor vehicle is registered for that year in the

name of the applicant and that the applicant is the holder of a radio amateur's

license from Industry Canada, the Registrar may issue to the applicant a special

permit showing the registration number of the vehicle to be the call letter sign

assigned to the applicant by Industry Canada and two number plates of the type

described in Regulation [Section] 1.

4 Number plates issued under these regulations shall be mounted over the regular

number plates for the current year.

(1) If the person to whom a special permit and number plates have been issued

under these regulations ceases to own the motor vehicle for which they were

issued, he or his personal representative shall remove the special number

plates before transferring possession of the vehicle to another person.

(2) If another commercial motor vehicle having a registered weight of 6000 lbs.

or less or another passenger motor vehicle is not forthwith registered in the

name of the owner of the vehicle, he or his personal representative shall

immediately return the special permit and number plates to the Registrar.

(3) If another commercial motor vehicle having a registered weight of 6000 lbs.

or less or another passenger motor vehicle is registered in the name of the

owner after he has ceased to own the vehicle for which a special permit and

number plates were issued, the owner shall not attach the special number

plates to that vehicle until the special permit has been amended by the

Registrar to refer to the latter vehicle or a special permit has been issued for

it.
