WHEREAS May 3, 1978 has been declared "International Sun Day", in order to expand knowledge land awareness in the field of solar energy, and

WHEREAS solar energy is a vital, renewable, alternative source of energy which is safe and non-polluting, land

WHEREAS solar energy is less susceptible to mterruption by political, criminal or international commercial interests than other forms of energy, 1lHEREFORE, HER MAJESTY, by 'and with the advice and oonsenf 'of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1. The Research Council Act is amended by this Act. 2. The following is added after

section 8: 8.1 ~he Research Council shall (

a) oonduct research and development projeots relevant to the commercialization of S'dlar heating and solar energy technology either through the use of its own facilities or by contract, providing that money, has been appropriated to that purpose by the Legis lature; (

b) maintain a continuing study of developments in the field of solar ,energy, research and technology; and (

c) prepare and submit 'a report in respect of each year on its activities pursuant to .clauses (

a) and (

b) to the Minister .of Business Development and Tour ism who shall table the report ,at the earliest op portunity in the LegiS'lative Assembly. 3. This Act comes into force on the day upon which it is assented to, Explanatory Notes I. This Bill will amend

chapter of the Revised Statutes of Alberta, 1970. 2. Research Council to carry out solar energy research. Title: 1978 (18th, 4th) Bill 252, The Solar Energy Development Act
