An act to add

Section 66014.9 to the Education Code, relating to public postsecondary education. public postsecondary education Public postsecondary education: admission: labor market outcome and student loan information. Existing law establishes the California State University and the University of California as of the segments of public postsecondary education in this state. Existing law requires the California State University, and requests the University of California, to publicly provide labor market outcome information relating to the graduates of their undergraduate programs.

This bill would require the California State University, and would request the University of California, to include in admission notifications (1) a hyperlink to the university’s internet website that contains the labor market outcome information described above, and (2) information on student loans, as specified. MAJORITY NO YES NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION

Section 66014.9 is added to the Education Code , to read: 66014.9. The California State University shall, and the University of California is requested to, include in admission notifications both of the following: (

a) A hyperlink to the university’s internet website that contains the labor market outcome information, as described in

Section 66014.3. (

b) Information on student loans, including both of the following:

(1) The federal student loans statement required in all printed and online financial aid materials issued or distributed by the institution to applicants for admission or matriculated students, as described in

Section 69800. (2) (

A) An explanation that public and private student loans have a range of interest rates and fees. (

B) The explanation described in subparagraph (

A) shall include a hypothetical example that illustrates how different payment schedules can impact the total interest paid by the student for the life of the loan. <caml:Num>SECTION 1.</caml:Num><caml:ActionLine action="IS_ADDED" xlink:href="urn:caml:codes:EDC:caml#xpointer(%2Fcaml%3ALawDoc%2Fcaml%3ACode%2F%2Fcaml%3ALawSection%5Bcaml%3ANum%3D'66014.9'%5D)" xlink:label="fractionType: LAW_SECTION" xlink:type="locator">Section 66014.9 is added to the <caml:DocName>Education Code</caml:DocName>, to read:</caml:ActionLine><caml:Fragment><caml:LawSection id="id_F30C392C-BA68-4B09-B0F4-596FFFE4D057"><caml:Num>66014.9.</caml:Num><caml:LawSectionVersion id="id_94A72B1D-3D95-413C-8C64-02E83E991389"><caml:Content><xhtml:p>(a)<xhtml:span class="EnSpace"/>The California State University shall, and the University of California is requested to, include on admission letters the average salary data and average student loan payment data specific to the admitted student’s intended area of study, as specified in subdivisions (

b) and (c).</xhtml:p><xhtml:p>(b)<xhtml:span class="EnSpace"/>For the academic years of 2026–27 to 2031–32, inclusive, the data provided pursuant to subdivision (

a) shall reflect the systemwide average salary and loan payment data for graduates in the admitted student’s intended area of study.</xhtml:p><xhtml:p>(c)<xhtml:span class="EnSpace"/>Beginning with the 2032–33 academic year, the data provided pursuant to subdivision (

a) shall reflect the average salary and loan payment data specific to the admitted student’s intended area of study, disaggregated by campus.</xhtml:p><xhtml:p>(d)<xhtml:span class="EnSpace"/>Data collected pursuant to

Section 66014.3 may be used to fulfill the requirements of this section.</xhtml:p><xhtml:p>(e)<xhtml:span class="EnSpace"/>Data collected or provided for purposes of this

section shall adhere to all applicable state and federal privacy laws.</xhtml:p></caml:Content></caml:LawSectionVersion></caml:LawSection></caml:Fragment></caml:BillSection>"?>
