California Fairgrounds Appreciation Month California Fairgrounds Appreciation Month. This measure would designate the month of May as California Fairgrounds Appreciation Month and would extend the Legislature’s warmest regards and appreciation to the people and organizations who work to keep the network of California state fairgrounds strong, vibrant, relevant, and successful. NO

WHEREAS, California’s state fairgrounds serve the entire state, from the County of San Diego to Del Norte, and from the County of Monterey to Mariposa; and

WHEREAS, California state fairgrounds attracted over 20,000,000 visitors for fairs and events in 2024; and

WHEREAS, California counties enjoy the year-round economic, recreational, cultural, and social impacts of the fairgrounds; and

WHEREAS, California state fairgrounds expend and generate millions of new dollars for nonprofit organizations, youth organizations, cities and counties, small businesses, and the state’s General Fund; and

WHEREAS, Upon extreme fire seasons, pandemics, floods, climate extremes, and power outages, California state fairgrounds are consistently called into service in times of crisis to assist Californians displaced by natural disasters throughout the state; and

WHEREAS, California state fairgrounds provide public facilities for animals, pets, and livestock during good times and bad; and

WHEREAS, California state fairgrounds continue to serve as venues for community celebration and civic enrichment; and

WHEREAS, California’s state fairgrounds continue to serve as the social and economic hub of their respective communities;

now, therefore,

be it Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby designates the month of May as California Fairgrounds Appreciation Month in appreciation for the services provided to California by the fairgrounds in the state; and be it further Resolved, That the Legislature extends its warmest regards and appreciation to the thousands of fair directors, staff, volunteers, business supporters, and sponsors, the Western Fairs Association, and the California Fairs Alliance, who work to keep the network of California state fairgrounds strong, vibrant, relevant, and successful; and be it further Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
