Conditions of Participation If you are in Dependency Drug Court, you must: 1. Not possess, use, or consume alcohol or illegal substances; 2. Participate in substance abuse treatment; 3. Comply with all rules of your substance abuse treatment program; 4. Appear in Dependency Drug Court at the dates and times ordered by the court; 5. Agree to be tested randomly for alcohol and/or drugs; 6. Make sure you don’ t dilute or otherwise tamper with any urine sample provided for alcohol/drug testing; 7. Participate in all required drug treatment activities; 8. Attend all requir ed counseling sessions; 9.

Cooperate fully wi th treatment program staff and the HHSA social worker; and 10. Be completely truthf ul in everything you say to court. All parents in the Dependency Court system are encouraged to read this brochure and discuss this program with their attorney. The program is designed to help parents address their alcohol and/or drug abuse problems. Admitting the problem and being willing to make a commitment to sobriety are the first steps toward recovery.

A public service to help you help yourself Funding provided by County of San Diego, Alcohol and Drug Services SDSC JUV-178 (Rev. 1/12) Dependency Drug Court conditions are designed to help you reunify with your child and retain your parental rights. If you don’t follow the rules, you could be dismissed from Dependency Drug Court and lose this assistance. The program is designed to pro- vide direct help to parents in ad- dressing their alcohol and/or drug abuse problems.

San Diego Dependency Drug Court Parents ordered to substance abuse treatment may want or need the addi- tional support provided by Dependency Drug Court. Talk to your attorney about how to enroll. If the circumstances that brought your family into the dependency system sug- gest that you would benefit from the support offered through Dependency Drug Court, the judge may order you to go to Dependency Drug Court. Others may be ordered to Dependency Drug Court by the judge after a period of time struggling in their recovery.

Our Goal The primary goal of the Dependency Drug Court is to promote safe reunification for as many families as possible by promoting successful recovery from drug or alcohol dependency when alcohol or drug abuse is a contributing factor in child abuse or neglect cases. To achieve this goal, the County of San Diego is committed to providing alcohol and drug treatment services to parents in the dependency system. Parents must agree to cooperate with the treatment providers to meet their goals of getting sober and reunifying with their children.

Services/Program Parents in Dependency Drug Court must participate in substance abuse treatment. The Substance Abuse Specialist (SAS) will locate the best treatment pro- gram for each parent and help the parent enroll in the program. Treatment services may include counseling, educa- tion sessions, therapy, recovery support groups, meetings, parenting education, and self-help groups. The primary goal of Dependency Drug Court is to help parents get clean and sober so their children can safely return home. Who is Eligible ? Dependency Drug Court Dependency Drug Court requires nine months of continuous sobriety.

If accepted, participants must make a commitment to attend the treatment program recommended by the Substance Abuse Specialist (SAS) and to be randomly tested. Participants also must appear at court at the following inter- vals: Phase 1 90 days Once a week Phase 2 90 days Every two w e e k s Phase 3 90 days Once a month Participants in Dependency Drug Court may be more successful in treatment because of the added support and feedback from peers. The Dependency Drug Court Judge keeps the assigned Dependency Judge informed about each participant’s progress toward recovery. Court-Ordered Participation
