WHEREAS, the Holocaust, the state-sponsored, systematic persecution and annihilation of European Jewry by Nazi Germany and its collaborators between and 1945, resulted in the murder of six million Jewish people, and

WHEREAS, in addition, Roma and Poles were targeted for decimation for racial, ethnic, or national reasons, and millions more, including persons with disabilities, homosexuals, 12 Jehovah’s Witnesses, Soviet prisoners of war, and political dissidents, suffered grievous oppression and death unde r Nazi tyranny, and

WHEREAS, the history of the Holocaust offers an opportunity to reflect on the moral responsibilities of individuals, 17 societies, and governments, particularly the duty to remain vigilant against hatred, persecution, and tyranny, and

WHEREAS, pursuant to

an act of the United States Congress 20 (Public Law No. 96-388, October 7, 1980), the United States Holocaust Memorial Council has designated Sunday, April 24, 22 through Sunday, May 1, 2022, as the “Days of Remembrance” for the victims of the Holocaust, including the Day of Remembrance known as Yom HaShoah on April 28, 2022, and
