WHEREAS, members of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, the official recognized federal tribal nation and sole successor in interest to the historic Creek Nation, are the direct lineal descendants of the ancestors who lived for centuries on the lands of what is now Northern Florida, and

WHEREAS, the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, a Florida Native American sovereign government that also included much of the southeast region of the United States, entered one of the earliest peace treaties with President George Washington and Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson on August 1, 1790, and

WHEREAS, the Muscogee (Creek) Nation is recognized by the Federal Government as one of the official Native American governments of Florida, and

WHEREAS, on May 28, 1830, President Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act into law, initiating the forced relocation of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, in violation of many previous treaties signed by the United States, and

WHEREAS, the Muscogee (Creek) Nation citizens were once again targeted, along with the Seminole Nation, to be forcibly removed from Florida by the state militia by

an act of the Florida Legislature signed by Governor William Dunn Moseley on December 18, 1846, and

WHEREAS, the infamous “Trail of Tears” of Native American removal included a path from Florida to the Oklahoma Indian Territory, which thousands of Muscogee (Creek) Nation members of Florida Senate - 2025 (NP) SR 1896 13-03787-25 20251896__ CODING: Words stricken are deletions; words underlined are additions.
