Senate Resolution 1 A resolution recognizing the 50th anniversary of the 2 opening of the main terminal building at Tampa 3 International Airport. 4 5 WHEREAS, on April 15, 1971, Tampa International Airport 6 opened the doors to its brand-new, revolutionary landside-7 airside facility, drawing more than 60,000 members of the public 8 and the media to tour the facility before the first jet even 9 arrived, and 10 WHEREAS, Tampa International Airport, itself, became a 11 tourist attraction for Central Florida as people came from all 12 over the world to ride the first-ever airport shuttles, which 13 were featured in Time magazine, and to marvel at the hub-and-14 spoke design that was spacious yet easy to navigate, and 15 WHEREAS, under the leadership of the Hillsborough County 16 Aviation Authority and then-Director George J.

Bean, Tampa 17 International Airport was held up as a model that airports 18 across the nation used for decades as an example of excellence, 19 and 20 WHEREAS, among the most innovative elements of the new 21 airport was its red-blue wayfinding system, designed by 22 environmental graphic designer Jane Davis Doggett, which 23 continues to guide the traveler experience from curbside to 24 ticketing to the airside terminals with color rather than 25 directional navigation, making the intentionally short walk from 26 vehicle to gate even more seamless, and 27 WHEREAS, Ms.

Power and Associates annual airport satisfaction 38 survey for the last 6 years, and 39 WHEREAS, in 2021, Airports Council International named 40 Tampa International Airport one of the most hygienic in North 41 America as part of the organization’s annual Airport Service 42 Quality awards, which highlight the world’s best airports as 43 judged by their guests, and 44 WHEREAS, because of the vision for the future of those who 45 conceived it, Tampa International Airport will remain an 46 invaluable economic driver for the region for many generations 47 to come, NOW, THEREFORE, 48 49 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 50 51 That the 50th anniversary of the opening of the main 52 terminal building at Tampa International Airport is recognized. 53
