An act relating to assessment of property used for residential purposes; creating s. 193.6245, F.S.; 3 defining the term “changes or improvements made to improve the property’s resistance to wind damage”; 5 prohibiting consideration of the increase in just value of a property attributable to changes or improvements made to improve the property’s resistance to wind damage in determinations of the assessed value of certain property; providing applicability; 10 providing an effective date. 11

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 13

Section

Section 193.6245, Florida Statutes, is created to read: 16 193.6245 Assessment of property; changes or improvements for resistance to wind damage.— 18

(1) As used in this section, the term “changes or improvements made to improve the property’s resistance to wind damage” includes, but is not limited to, all of the following: 21

(

a) Improving the strength of the roof deck attachment. 22

(

b) Creating a secondary water barrier to prevent water intrusion. 24

(

c) Installing wind-resistant shingles. 25

(

d) Installing gable-end bracing. 26

(

e) Reinforcing roof-to-wall connections. 27

(

f) Installing storm shutters. 28

(

(2) In determining the assessed value of real property used for residential purposes, the increase in just value of a property attributable to changes or improvements made to improve the property’s resistance to wind damage may not be considered. 33

(3) This

section applies to changes or improvements made to improve the property’s resistance to wind damage made on or after January 1, 2026. 36

Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2025. 37
