An act relating to background screening of athletic 2 coaches; amending s. 943.0438, F.S.; revising the date 3 upon which certain background screenings of athletic 4 coaches must be conducted; providing an effective 5 date. 6 7 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 8 9

Section 1. Paragraph (

a) of subsection (2) of

section 10 943.0438, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: 11 943.0438 Athletic coaches for independent sanctioning 12 authorities.— 13

(2) An independent sanctioning authority shall: 14 (

a) Effective July 1, 2026, January 1, 2025, conduct a 15 level 2 background screening under s. 435.04 of each current and 16 prospective athletic coach. The authority may not delegate this 17 responsibility to an individual team and may not authorize any 18 person to act as an athletic coach unless a level 2 background 19 screening is conducted and does not result in disqualification 20 under paragraph (b). 21

Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2025. 22
