An act relating to specialty license plates; amending s. 320.08058, F.S.; directing the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to develop a Cure Diabetes license plate; providing for distribution and use of fees collected from the sale of the plate; 6 providing an effective date. 7

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 9

Section 1. Subsection (127) is added to

section 320.08058, 11 Florida Statutes, to read: 12 320.08058 Specialty license plates.— 13

(127) CURE DIABETES LICENSE PLATES.— 14

a) The department shall develop a Cure Diabetes license plate as provided in this

section and s. 320.08053. The plate must bear the colors and design approved by the department. The word “Florida” must appear at the top of the plate, and the words “Cure Diabetes” must appear at the bottom of the plate. 19

b) The annual use fees from the sale of the plate must be distributed equally to the following organizations: 21 1. The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, which supports the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine; 24 2. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; and 25 3. The University of Florida Diabetes Institute. 26

c) Each organization may use up to percent of the proceeds received by the organization to promote and market the plate. Section 2. This act shall take effect October 1, 2024. 31
