SONIA BECKET Defendant ______________________________________________________________________ JUDGMENT ______________________________________________________________________ [ 1 ] The law firm Ebrahim, Macleod, S.E.N.C. (Macleod) claims from Sonia Becket $5,691.27 representing unpaid legal fees. [ 2 ] Although Sonia Becket was duly convened and called, she was not present at the trial and thus the trial proceeded by default. [ 3 ] Macleod’s claim for unpaid fees covers legal work it performed in November 2012 for the benefit of Sonia Becket before the Court of Quebec, Youth Division.

It also includes work performed for Ms. Becket in January 2013 in relation to a mandate to represent her before the Quebec Superior Court in a matrimonial dispute. [ 4 ] Between May 2013 and June 2015, Macleod wrote to Ms. Becket on numerous occasions to request the payment of its outstanding legal fees [1] . Notwithstanding these numerous demand letters, Macleod’s legal fees remained unpaid. [ 5 ] After reviewing the evidence submitted by Macleod, the Court concludes that its claim is well founded in the amount of $5,691.97.

FOR THESE REASONS, THE COURT: [ 6 ] GRANTS the action; [ 7 ] CONDEMNS Sonia Becket to pay to Ebrahim, Macleod, S.E.N.C. $5,691.97 with interest at the legal rate plus the additional indemnity provided for in

article 1619 of the Civil Code of Quebec , from May 24, 2013; [ 8 ] WITH COSTS of $171 representing the judicial fees on the application. __________________________________ ENRICO FORLINI, J.C.Q. Date of hearing: December 19, 2016
